Honouring Our Past...Celebrating Our Future

The Red Triangle Award recognizes long and meritorious service, outstanding contributions and achievement in the community. This year’s recipient, Erminie Cohen, has led numerous volunteer initiatives and has served our community as a respected citizen and former senator. She embodies the spirit of giving and service. Her big heart and generous spirit are well-known throughout Saint John and the province of New Brunswick.

The Leader to Watch Award recognizes an individual, 35 years of age or younger, who is a role model for other young adults in our community. Stephany Peterson, an employee of the University of New Brunswick Saint John, is this year’s recipient. Peterson is a valued member of the organizing committee for the successful Pavilion Cup that was held this past weekend and has been involved with a number of special events that have benefitted our community.

Erminie Cohen and Stephany Peterson will receive their awards at the Red Triangle Award Gala on April 4th at the Saint John Trade and Convention Centre.

“Erminie and Stephany are both leaders in our community, one well-established, one relatively new to the  scene,” said Alyson Townsend, Chair of the Saint John YMCA-YWCA Board of Directors. “The Red Triangle awards are about people that make a difference in the lives of others, role models that lead by example.  This year’s recipients embody these principles.”

The theme of this year’s Red Triangle Award Gala is “Remembering our Past, Celebrating our Future”. There are many past and present members, former award recipients and volunteers that have made a difference in the lives of many at the Saint John Y. And there are many people that have contributed to the Y so that everyone has the opportunity to participate. No one is ever turned away at the Y, and because of this the Y has made a dramatic difference in the lives of numerous people.  As the Y moves into a new era with a new facility scheduled to open in 2014, the gala is an opportunity to celebrate the future.

Tickets for the event are $120 each or $900 for a table of eight (a charitable donation receipt will be given for a portion of the ticket price). The elegant event starts with a reception at 5:30 p.m. and a four course meal will be served at 7 p.m.

The Saint John YM-YWCA is a charity, open to all, serving the community since 1854.  Funds raised from the gala will support the Strong Kids Campaign. This Campaign encourages the public to invest in the Y to help provide more opportunities for children from high-need communities, families facing financial barriers, and Canadian newcomers, to participate in and benefit from Y programs.  For more information about the Y’s Strong Kids Campaign, or to make a donation, click here.
